Japanese Grammar from Scratch: The Organic Structure Approach
A 90-lesson English-language grammar course that explains Japanese through one core sentence structure, the stem/helper system for verb and adjective forms, and the logic of particles. It starts with the basic sentence, tenses, verb groups and adjectives, then moves to conditionals, causatives, helper verbs and reading short native ghost-story passages. It suits self-learners who already have, or are separately learning, the kana, and who want to understand why the grammar works as it does. It does not teach hiragana or katakana.

- Tell transitive and intransitive verb pairs apart using pattern rules, and use verb groups and adjective types correctly
- Choose between the と, ば, たら and なら conditionals, and between そうだ, らしい, みたい and ように
- Use common helper and set expressions such as てみる, ておく, てしまう, ちゃう, あげる/くれる/もらう, ばかり, だけ and しか
- Analyse longer native sentences, including a ghost-story reading series, by finding subjects, word order and dropped particles
