Organic Chemistry: Complete Course from Bonding to Reaction Mechanisms
A full two-semester organic chemistry sequence. It starts with Lewis structures, acids and bases, nomenclature and stereochemistry. It then works through substitution, elimination, alkene, alkyne, alcohol, carbonyl, aromatic and amine reactions with arrow-pushing mechanisms, and adds spectroscopy, pericyclic reactions, retrosynthesis practice, carbohydrates and amino acids. It suits college students taking or revising organic chemistry who want mechanisms explained rather than memorised. It is not a short mechanisms-only primer.

What You'll Learn
- Draw and interpret Lewis, condensed and bond-line structures, resonance forms, and assign hybridization, formal charge and polarity
- Rank acid and base strength using the atom, resonance, induction and orbital (ARIO) factors
- Assign R/S configurations and work out enantiomer, diastereomer and meso relationships
- Push curved arrows through SN1, SN2, E1 and E2 mechanisms and predict which pathway and product dominates
- Predict products and mechanisms for alkene and alkyne additions, alcohol and epoxide reactions, and radical halogenation
- Predict and draw mechanisms for electrophilic aromatic substitution, carbonyl addition, nucleophilic acyl substitution, and enolate reactions such as aldol, Claisen and Michael
- Plan multi-step syntheses by working backwards, and use IR, mass spec and NMR data to determine a structure
Prerequisites
- General chemistry basics: atomic structure, electron configuration, periodic trends, and introductory acids and bases and thermodynamics
- No prior organic chemistry needed; the course begins with bonding and Lewis structures
